Family Setting

Family Support & Consultancy

Family life can become difficult when a child or young person’s needs aren’t fully understood or the right support isn’t in place. Respectrum provides individualised support for families to help them better understand their child, identify what may be making everyday life harder and find practical ways forward.

We work alongside families rather than telling them how to parent. Our approach recognises parents and carers as experts in their own child, combining that knowledge with specialist SEND experience to develop support that works for the individual child and their family.

How we can help

  • Understanding a child or young person’s individual strengths, needs and neurodivergent profile
  • Helping families understand behaviour as communication, including what may be contributing to distress, overwhelm or dysregulation
  • Practical support with emotional regulation and everyday family life
  • Understanding sensory differences and adapting the home environment
  • Supporting communication and identifying individual communication preferences
  • Developing personalised visual and communication supports where helpful
  • Supporting routines, transitions and periods of change
  • Occupational Therapy assessment and specialist advice where appropriate
  • Supporting families where education, attendance or engagement has become difficult
  • Helping strengthen communication between home, education settings and other professionals
  • Signposting families to appropriate services and sources of support
  • Building parent/carer confidence and understanding through collaborative, individualised support

Our approach is collaborative, person-centred and neurodiversity-affirming. We focus on understanding what a child or young person may be communicating through their behaviour, identifying barriers and adapting the support and environment around them rather than expecting them simply to fit existing expectations.
